We believe lighting designers have a social responsibility. We know that lighting has the power to influence social paths and social attitudes.
We create public spaces after dark that are more inclusive, more meaningful and more engaging. We distilled our many years of experience in the field and condensed into one approach: Light Follows Behaviour.

Transforming public spaces into safe and inclusive places
We bring a new multi-disciplinary approach to lighting design, integrating spatial analysis, social analysis and after-dark engagement. Our projects are deeply informed by the people who inhabit each place.
Working closely with stakeholders, we create a strong dialogue to communicate the importance of evidenced-based and socially informed lighting. We take a holistic approach to lighting, creating atmospheres that support users throughout day and night.
We combine sociological research and community engagement to make after-dark public spaces more inclusive through lighting.
An inclusive, multi-disciplinary approach
We know that understanding the users and the use of each space we work in, is key to designing successful public places with a lasting positive impact.
In addition to conducting lighting assessments and after-dark analysis of a space, we seek to understand the social life of a place through innovative social research and after-dark engagement. This ensures a clear design engagement with the needs and practices of users of the spaces we light.
Social research and engagement are crucial in order to challenge assumptions and preconceived notions of places and communities that can produce unsustainable designs. We help clients clearly identify technical, economic and social considerations at the outset of each project.
Lighting design and after-dark engagement
We encourage everyone to participate and express their thoughts and opinions. This includes 'everyone': all the users and non-users of a space that need to be included in the conversation.
We use a variety of methods including night-walks, interviews, observation and documentation, and temporary lighting demonstrations to build a common language about light and after-dark conditions. We give stakeholders and communities an understanding of lighting and design possibilities.
Our experienced team combines technical lighting, design and social expertise to create after-dark environments that address the needs of local communities and stakeholders in creative and innovative ways.
