Beco Niggaz da Hora, Vila Madalena, São Paulo
The workshop “Light for Coexistence” is a space for intervention public / private that seeks to generate a reflection on the urban light and its possible construction from the performance of existing social actions.
Located at the corner of Rua Belmiro Braga with Inácio Pereira da Rocha, in Vila Madalena, the Beco of Niggaz da Hora has been rethought by the community since the end of 2013. The area is another example of abandonment of public space that we find throughout the city.
A goers neighborhood group has been meeting for the purpose of requalify the area, which is now degraded. Composed of merchants, residents and the NGO Cidade Escola Aprendiz, the group conducted a survey among residents of Belmiro Braga Street to identify which uses of this the space community want.
The possibility of joining forces with local social workers and the very community brings a chance to reverse the feeling of impotence citizens against the appropriation of the city. Within this movement search for the resumption of a public area for recreational uses, sports, culture and history, the workshop “Light for Coexistence” will add to discuss the key role that light can have on the use of these spaces.
