A new place under a highway, in East London
The area under the A13 highway, just next to Canning Town metro station was redesigned as part of the Halsville Quarter development by Linkcity. Two main goals were set: to increase dwell time and to activate it by inspiring new type of uses.
LFB’s approach was to introduce lighting that was inclusive, meaningful and engaging to the local community, new residents and visitors. This large area needed to be defined and articulated, and through the help of bold geometries and graphics, vibrant colors, shapes and sounds the visitors are now both welcome to stay, engage or just simply pass through. The lighting supports many types of activities, encourages dwell time and offers a different experience of what was before a forgotten and neglected area.
Terry Spinks Place was awarded ‘Best Landscape Lighting Design’ at the LIT lighting design awards
